Emirates boasts a fleet of 234 aircraft, with at least 200 in production. Aircraft are mainly wide-bodied consisting of Airbus A330, A340 and A380 along with the Boeing 777. Internally planes have Economy, Business and First Class sections with Business and First Class passengers having access to an onboard bar. A distinctive feature on newer aircraft is the starry ceiling lighting which depicts the night sky including the Big and Little Dipper constellations.
Emirates is the Middle East's largest airline and the world's fourth-largest. As Gulf Air began to cut back its services in the mid-1980s, the Dubai royal family gave their backing to the new airline. It started in 1985 with two aircraft leased from Pakistan Airlines and within two years was serving eleven destinations including non-stop flights to London Gatwick. The airline has gone from strength to strength, raising its profile with sporting sponsorships around the world, including a billion dollar stadium deal in 2005 with the British football team, Arsenal. The same year saw the airline place the largest Boeing 777 order in history. It's gone on to be the largest buyer of new aircraft in the world.
